Listed below are what I consider the best news and commentary about the relationship between religion, ethics, politics and social life. I’d recommend bookmarking them, adding them to your RSS feed or podcast playlist.
Religion and Ethics Newsweekly
An online magazine and news show devoted to issues of religion and ethics in the news. This is perhaps the best resource I know of for social and political reporting/commentary with a religious focus.
Speaking of Faith
An NPR radio show/podcast hosted by Krista Tippett that focuses on different froms of faith as they are lived today. She has some great interviews on here.
The Huffington Post – Religion
This is a new section of The Huffington Post that is dedicated to reporting and commentary about religion (mostly) in the US. There has already been some controversial stuff posted here in its relatively short life span.
A progressive Baptist website dedicated to commentary on current events and the way the Baptist faith can interpret and respond to them.
The Christian Century
A now legendary magazine in Christian circles. It is especially important in “mainline” Christian circles. Lots of thoughtful commentary that is tied to a rich history. Nearly every “big name” in Christian theology and ethics in the US in the twentieth century has written for the Century.
The “conservative” or evangelical version of the Century. A national magazine that reports and comments on current events through evangelical Christian lenses.
Books and Culture
A part of the Christianity Today circle that focuses on engagement with culture – i.e. books, film, etc. Lots of reviews of and commentaries about new books and such that are released.
A progressive magazine started by Rabbi Michael Lerner that intends to provide interfaith perspectives on politics and culture.
A Catholic magazine dealing with faith, politics, society and culture from an interdenominational perspective.
God’s Politics Blog
National blog run by Sojourners. Typically includes commentary from progressive evangelical voices. I am an occasional contributor.
Faith in Public Life Blog
Blog of an organization that sees religious voices in the public square as a good and seeks to promote such discourse.
